Hiking With Mi Padre

Hiking With Mi Padre

On my family vacation to visit my uncle and grandma, my dad and I decided to wake up early and go on a quick hike. The last time I was in Maine, Paula and I tried to hike Mt. Megunticook and then hike to Maiden’s Cliff. Our plans changed when we took a wrong turn and ended up at Zeke’s Outlook. Zeke’s Outlook was a nice view so it wasn’t a total loss, but it wasn’t Maiden’s Cliff. This time around, my dad and I parked at the trailhead parking lot off of Mountain St. in Camden, ME and started off on the 2-mile hike.

We started the hike at 6:30 am and got to the cliff by 7 am. Unfortunately, the sun rises from the ocean so Maiden’s Cliff isn’t the destination to hike to in order to see the sunrise. However, the outlook would probably be quite beautiful at sunset as the sun would set behind mountains and reflect off of Megunticook Lake.

There was a large, white metal cross at the cliff as a memorial to a girl who fell off the cliff in the 1800s. The girl was trying to catch her hat that had blown off and fell to her death.

Even though the hike was short and brisk, I was still quite sweaty

Overall the hike was easy as my dad and I took the Maiden’s Cliff trail to the outlook and then the scenic ridge trail back to the parking lot. My dad surprised me with his ability to keep up with me and we were able to hike at the standard 30 minutes a mile pace. I would definitely recommend this hike to anyone because although there were parts that were a bit steep, the view was definitely worth it.
